Cropper in West Yorkshire

Huddersfield Local Studies Library

Huddersfield Local Studies Library will happily be involved with activites in 2012 to commemorate the bicentenary of the Luddite risings in this area. We hope to contribute to the planned touring exhibition and to the proposed "Luddite Trail" to enable those interested to visit places associated with the main events and to learn more about the characters involved, whether Luddite, mill owner, J.P. or clergyman.

For those who wish to delve further, the library owns some key resources in the search for more information. We have photographs or prints of some of the buildings which figured in the risings and newspaper reports on microfilm of all the incidents which occurred. We also have a good collection of books about the movement, some written in the 19th Century and one based on the personal account of a participant.
